App Store Hits Milestone Of A Massive 15 billion Apps Downloaded
09/07/2011 | Nicholas Griffin
Every so often Apple will count the amount of apps that have been downloaded from their iOS App Store from iDevices and then release their findings out for everyone to see, a couple of days ago they did just this but this one is a bit bigger than usual. Apple had announced that they have received a huge 15 billion downloads from the App Store in just three years, which is truly extraordinary.
Apple’s SVP Philip Schiller said in a statement
“In just three years, the revolutionary App Store has grown to become the most exciting and successful software marketplace the world has ever seen, Thank you to all of our amazing developers who have filled it with over 425,000 of the coolest apps and to our over 200 million iOS users for surpassing 15 billion downloads.”
During Apple’s WWDC event this year, they also announced they had paied out more than $2.5 million dollars to developers and the store now carries 425,000 free and paid apps, which is a huge amount considering Apple’s guidelines alongside the fact that the store has only been open for three years, making it the quickest growing phone store yet, whatever Apple are doing they are defiantly doing it right.
probably the best category of apps available within the app store is the games, I think the games are defiantly the best on the iPhone because of the sheer choice of games available with games releasing nearly every day, you will never be bored on the train again.
In research carried out in may by Nelson, it was revealed that a massive 79% of iOS users had downloaded an app in the last 30 days, comparing this with Android users from which a still quite large 74% had downloaded an app in the last 30 days.
This certainly shows that iOS and Andriod is way ahead of the other mobile app stores provided by Windows and RIM, only 63% of WIndows Phone 7 users had downloaded an app in the last 30 days with an even smaller 42% of Blackberry users downloading regularly.
What do you think? What is your favorite App Store/ Marketplace? What do you think about Apple leaving their competion trailing? How regularly do you download apps?
