BlackBerry Reveals PlayBook OS 2.0, CES 2012

You may remember in our what to expect for CES 2012: Mobile Phones and Tablets post, we suggest that BlackBerry would be releasing a new 2.0OS for the frankly failed PlayBook tablet, well it seems we were right as they have, and according to RIM its going to rescue the current situation of the PlayBook.

Co-CEO, Mike Lazaridis stated the good points about the PlayBook during the conference, for which according to him the, “BlackBerry PlayBook is already recognised for delivering powerful performance, true multi-tasking, advanced web browsing and HD multimedia in an ultra-portable design,”

But he also added:

“With BlackBerry PlayBook OS 2.0 we are building on this strong foundation, as well as leveraging our strengths in communications, social integration and productivity, to allow people to use their BlackBerry PlayBook in new ways throughout the day.”

Amongst some of the changes one of the biggest is the new, advanced messaging system which will bring a unified inbox for your mail, which will grab your inbox from Twitter and various other social networks and stick it in a tabbed mailbox alongside your actual mail.

As well as the Messaging app the Calender and Contacts are getting a lot more social to, with the ability to have, (as RIM states) “more than just an address book”. Probably the biggest feature is the new link between the PlayBook and BlackBerry smartphones, allowing you to use your handset as a keyboard and mouse for the tablet.

What do you think? Will this safe the PlayBook?
