Apple Granted NFC-Based iTravel Check-In Patent
10/07/2012 | Nicholas Griffin
Originally filed back in 2008, Apple has only just been granted a patent to allow for an NFC-based travel check-In system, the patent application describes the system with the name “iTravel”, which is quite obvious for the company. The system will allow the user to store ticket information/ reservations for a number of services including trains, planes and auto rentals.
Not only can they store they will also be able to use an NFC-supported phone to check in when they actually reach their destination, this fits in with a not of rumors that the next iPhone may come with NFC support, and I could defiantly see this technology being integrated with the new Passbook application.
As always we don’t know anything for sure, but we will let you know when we do.
