Apple isn’t normally one for big buy-outs of companies, but it seems for this one they changed their mind and have purchased Samsung’s partner security firm, AuthenTec for $356 million.

The company makes security software and fingerprint sensor chips for use with security devices, the acquisition comes after Samsung partnered with the company to input their chips into Android devices.

Were not sure if the acquisition will turn out good or bad at this point, but it’s possible that Apple could use the company to input chips into their own Mac and iOS devices, and could possibly bring secure NFC technology to the iPhone.

The main reason for the acquisition could be the 200 patents AuthenTec own as further ammunition for their upcoming law-suits.
