The BBC’s Red Button Becomes The Connected Red Button With iPlayer Content
04/12/2012 | Nicholas Griffin
Finally the BBC have decided that the Red Button needs an update, which they gave now done, launching a new “Connected Red Button” service today that will allow the Red Button to show the user iPlayer catch-up programming, full BBC news and weather as well as multi-stream sport coverage that will show what’s happening in multiple live events at the touch of the red button.
The new Red Button will of course use a broadband connection in order to access these features instead of the previous digital broadcast signal technology, which means of course the service will now be a lot faster.
In the long run, the BBC want this to become more streamlined and simple much like the BBC iPlayer application.
For now you can use the new Connected Red Button on Virgin Media’s Tivo box, but will make it’s way to the cheaper Freesat and YouView and other devices during 2013.
However it’s not likely the service will hit the Sky service.
