Radio is a huge thing, especially in the UK, but it seems that online music services may be starting to pass it in terms of royalties earned from digital music services last year in the UK, after it was revealed that British songwriters including Ed Sheeran and Calvin Harris has netted a record total of £51.7m in royalties from the online services, compared to £47 million from radio. Meaning online licensing revenues have surpassed radio for the first time.
Something that is probably due to new licensing agreements from Microsoft and Google for their Xbox Music and Google Play services, increasing digital revenues by 32.2% in 2012.
Information was revealed by the UK royalties body, PRS for Music.
