Apple details guidelines for Kids section of the App Store

At WWDC in June, Apple announced they will soon be adding a section dedicated to Kids in the App Store with the launch of iOS 7, however it is only today that the company has detailed how this category will work

In a e-mail to developers the company detailed how apps within this section will be split into specific age ranges; 5 and under, 6-8 and 9-11, with a selection of games, entertainment and educational applications available for download.

Apps within the section will continue to appear in the main listings, but the Kids section will remain as a separate section within the App Store, removing the Kids sub-category in the Games section.

Alongside this, Advertisers will no longer be able to target young app users based on their behaviour in the app,, and all ads that are served must be appropriate for Kids, with the addition of a “parental gate” that will allow parents to prevent unsupervised buying of in-app purchases or links placed outside the app.
