Ultrabooks are a new type of computer now available on market that are kinda like Netbooks, but are ultra-portable, ultra-powerful and ultra-expensive (see what we did there).

But if you have the cash to put down on one of these machines they are defiantly the portable laptop you should buy for this years term.

The first on our list is also the cheapest, available at around $650 the Samsung Series 5 Ultrabook is just 315mm thin and only 1.52kgs light, packing an Intel i5 1.70GHz processor, 6GBs of RAM and Windows 7 Home Premium 64bit this laptop is great to carry around with you.

The Series 5 also has a Intel® HD Graphics 4000 card, 300nit Anti-Reflective HD LED Display with a 1366 x 768 13.3 inch LED back-lit display and a 500GB hard drive.

The Samsung Ultrabook also packs 2 USB 2.0 and a USB 3.0 port, alongside a 3-in-1 memory card reader, Intel® Centrino® Advanced-N 6235, 2×2 802.11 abg/n Wi-Fi capabilities and a 1.3MP HD webcam.

If the Samsung isn’t your thing, Acer have also released their own Aspire Ultrabook also available from £650, the S3-391 comes with the same Intel i5 1.70GHz processor and Windows 7 Home Premium 64 bit, but only has 4GBs of RAM installed.

The Aspire Ultrabook also comes with a Intel® HD 4000 graphics card, with a Acer CineCrystal™ LED-backlit display that packs a 1366 x 768 resolution in13.3 inches.

It also comes with a 500GB hard drive alongside a second 20GB SSD hard-drive for fast resumes. The Aspire S3 also comes with Acer InviLink™ Nplify™ 802.11b/g/n Wi-Fi capabilities, 2 USB 3.0/ HDMI ports, Bluetooth 4.0 and a 1.3MP HD webcam.

The HP Envy 6 is next in line, with (as you can guess) an Intel i5 1.7GHz processor, 4GBs of RAM and Windows 7 Home Premium 64 bit, but with the price tag of around £700.

However the Envy 6 also comes with a 500GB hard drive built-in with another 32GB Solid State Drive, 1 USB 2.0 port, 2 USB 3.0 ports and Intel’s 802.11 b/g/n with WiDi capabilities.

Also packed in is a HDMI port 2.0MP webcam and Beats Audio Technology, which is where the higher price comes in as this Ultrabook also comes packed with 2 speakers and HP Triple Bass Reflex Subwoofer, making it great for the music enthusiast.

ASUS have also stepped in with their UX21E-KX004V 11.6″ Ultrabook, which is the first Ultrabook on the list to come with a 128GB SSD only, so there’s no hard drive alongside it. Which is not a bad thing as this will make the machine run faster than others above it on the list.

Alongside ASUS have also put Intel’s i5 processor, 4GBs of DDR3 RAM Backlit LED TFT HD screen with 1366X768 resolution packed in an 11.6 inch screen.

The UX21E also comes with 1 x USB 2.0 port, 1 x USB 3.0 port, an SD card reader, 1 Mini VGA and 1 Mini HDMI port. There is also a VGA webcam on the front.

All with a £750 price tag

We have already covered tablets on the back to school guide, now it’s time to show you some Netbooks.

Netbooks are great laptops for people on a budget with a need for portability, I have been using my HP DM1 netbook for about a year now and I’ve gotta say it makes like so much easier knowing you can chill on a bus playing a game or typing out a document without any weight on your shoulders (literally).

Netbooks are not for everyone however, so keep that in mind when looking through the list, and if you don’t like the sound of them make sure to keep tuned for our Ultrabook and Laptop lists.

As there’s not that many Netbooks around anymore we were lacking on a choice to show you, but below are some of our favorites that we could find brand new.

The first is our budget netbook, ASUS X101CH, which includes and Intel Atom 1.6GHz processor, 1GB of RAM and a 320GB hard drive, alongside which is a 10.1 inch screen, SDHC memory card reader and 2 USB 2.0 ports.

There is also Integrated 802.11b/g/built-in, as well as a VGA and HDMI port, the screen also packs a 1024 x 600 WSVGA resolution.

The ASUS will set you back around £199 and comes with Windows 7 Starter installed.

The ACER Aspire One is the next on the list and packs similar specs to the ASUS but has a £229 price tag.

To be honest the only deference between this and the ASUS actually is the price tag and that it includes an extra USB port and ACER branding, but if you want some of those ACER built chips and software included you will have to pay the extra bit of cash.

Next up is HP’s answer to the netbook with the 210, this lightweight netbook includes a 10.1 inch screen like the rest, but packs a punchier 1.9GHz processor, alongside that it also comes packed with Intel’s Graphics Media Accelerator 3650 and Beats Audio technology.

The Beats Audio really helps to set the HP’s same old 320GB hard drive and 1GB RAM apart and is probably the best reason to pick one up for yourself.

If you would like to pick one up you might be surprised at its £229 price-tag, all in great specs, this one is most defiantly the steal.

Technology has come a long way over the past few decades. From the drastic increase in the efficiency of computers and laptops to touchscreen mobile devices, we have much to appreciate in our modern society. As our dependence on this technology becomes more prevalent, these advances will continue through the years. It is exciting for technology buffs who follow the industry to speculate on what kinds of advancements will be made in the coming years.

One particular area that these advancements are being made seemingly every day are in the world of cell phones and mobile devices. Cell phones have gone from being a simple way of verbal communication to a hand-held powerhouses that provides Internet access, text messaging, gaming and more. Currently, the most notable advancement made in the cell phone industry has been wireless charging.

Below are a few notable benefits associated with charging your mobile device through your laptop wirelessly.

Not Having to Deal With Different Peripherals

One of the biggest complaints associated with charging mobile devices is the different peripheral each unit seems to have. No matter which device you have, there is always a secondary adapter that is necessary to make it function with a specific charging port. Fortunately, wireless charging via and ultrabook and other laptop computers helps to reduce this irritating aspect of mobile devices. No more having to purchase multiple adapters to ensure you can charge your mobile device on the road.

No Need to Rely on a Hard Power Source

Another benefit to charging your cell phone wirelessly with your laptop is that you do not have to rely on a power outlet. This particular element is exceptionally useful for people who are on the road often. The more you use your cell phone or other mobile device, the faster you drain the battery. It is much easier to simply charge it wirelessly as you drive to your next appointment or in a situation you do not have access to a traditional power source as opposed to aimlessly searching for a power outlet before your phone dies.

Simply Put, Convenience

In addition to the above two amenities, the most obvious benefit is convenience. Whether you are in a hotel room on a business trip or just getting home from work, having a universal method to charge your mobile device, no matter where you are, provides a peace of mind in today’s fast paced society.

Technology is advancing every day, particularly with the devices that we use on a regular basis. Fortunately, these advances lead to increased efficiency as with the capability of using a laptop to wirelessly charge a mobile device. It is exciting to think of what improvements await technology hungry consumers in future years.

Toshiba are well known for creating some awesome laptops, and the Qosmio X775 is no differnt, it features an Intel i7 processor, the new Intel GTX 560M gaming card with 1.5GB GDDR5, alongside a massive 8GB’s of DDR3 RAM with a 1.25 TB hard drive.

This laptop would defiently give you some pretty extreme bragging rights, the Qosmio has a splash of red on the lid which may put some people off, but I like it. Under the lid you will find a touch sensitive media bar, which is situated between a pair of speaker grills.

Further down you you will find the laptop’s color turns to a dull grey which covers the rest of the notebook, with a touch of red along the trim of the touchpad, alongside that red backlit keyboard, which defiantly sets of the laptop.

The Toshiba Qosmio X775 measures in at 16.3 x 10.8 x 1.4 inches, weighing in at a tiny 7.5 pounds, which is two pounds lighter than Dell’s Alienware M17x making it extremely portable and lightweight. on the left of the device contains a lot of ports ranging from VGA, HDMI and Ethernet alongside 2 USB sockets one of with is 2.0 the other is 3.0.

On the right hand side contains another two 2.0 ports as well as a pair of headphone/ mic jacks, then on the front of the device is a 5 in 1 card reader. Probably the best part of the X775 is it’s keyboard with confortably spaced and silky keys, which are similar to thoose on the MacBook range, but have that impressive red glow.

The toshiba Quosmio X775 has it’s own brilliant 1920 x 1080 17.3 inch full HD screen, which is smaller than the previous model but not noticeable, it’s LED backlight provides the screen with bight, vivid colors, providing amaxing crisp images with a wide viewing angle, but the high gloss finish can be a bit annoying.

Above the screen is a dual-webcam to capture stereoscopic video blogs, as well as an embedded IR emitter allowing tou to enjoy all of your videos through NVIDIA’s 3D glasses, which will also work for watching 3D blu-ray movies and 3D enabled games.

We played a mix of Crysis, Portal 2 and team Fortress 2 all running simultaneously set at the highest setting with the only game failing being Crysis, but after turning the 3D switch down, it become a bit more playable, but it is still an amazing laptop with no gaming pedigree from Toshiba it is to be expected.

Check out EnGadget’s performance table below:

Toshiba have always made some brilliant laptops, my first laptop being a Toshiba Satelitte about 4-6 years ago, which still works now which is extremly good for a laptop of it’s age, from past knowledge I would defiantly reccommend this laptop to anyone considering buying a new laptop with some cool features.

Do you have a Toshiba Qosmio X775? Why not leave your own review below, telling us what you think.

Probably the best laptop on the market at the moment is the Alienware M11x, but Dell have made even better with their 2011 update, where they have included some pretty impressive specs ranging from better graphics, a better battery life, USB 3.0 and a set of 5.1 surround sound speakers.

But even the slightly chunky M11x still lacks an optical drive, which isnt much of a problem today with downloadable programs and games. Externally though it is complete identical with the main changes on the inside.

The M11x comes with two different models, one of which is the entry-level model which packs an Intel Core i5 processor, 4GB of DDR3 RAM and a Nvida GeForce 1GB graphics card. Alongside this the M11x R3 also includes an Intel HD 3000 Optimus integrated graphics, a 500GB 7200rpm hard drive all running Windows 7 64-bit Home Premium.

This is all packed in the a silky matte shell, with the trademarked Alienware logo on the lid and above the keyboard, and to top it all of they have even added LED headlights in each speaker grill.

One thing I must mention though is the weight, which is just above 2 kg making this device impossible to carry round comfortably, th best par of the M11x apart from its gaming heritage is its LED backlit keyboard and one of the biggest touchpads on a laptop currently, alongside this the laptop also comes with an 11.5 inch full HD disy.

The speakers on the M11x are nothing to be laughed at either, with enough volume on them to wake up a few annoying neighbours, port wise the M11x features both HDMI and DisplayPort, it is also fitted with a dual headphone jack, microphone jack, 2 USB 3,0 and one USB 2.0 port as well as a dualSD card slot, mini FireWire, Ethernet and WiFi included Bluetooth and WiMax as an optional extra.

probably the two worst things about the M11x is the lack of an optical port and how chunky the laptop is compared to the usual buy, but the M11x does make up for this through it’s beast like performance, and it can even be made better through an some optional extras such a i7 processor, the RAM can also be increased to 16GB, alongside an optional expanded hard drive to 750GB or even a 256GB SSD, but no option for an optical drive but you can pick up a really cheap one from most computer stores.

[nggallery id=2]

To summarise I would defiantly recommend this to anyone who likes to game, but I would never use this for the school run.

What do you think about the M11x? Do you have one leave a review below.
