If your like many of the Instagram users out there you have probably took a different photos in the time since you’ve started up, there’s a huge drawback to the photos you take though you can’t see them in real life as there always stuck on the next, but now thanks to Castagram a company who released an Intsagram photo case a little while ago, you can now print these photos onto an iPad case, to do so all you have to do is login using your Instagram account details, choose your device, case color, layout (for the images), ad filter and then just slap your images on the case.

Oh and then pay your $54.95 (£35) fee and your done.

And if you live in the US Apple hasn’t stopped their, you will also be able to purchase TV shows stright from your Apple TV, allowing you to download any show that is available on iTunes. And with the iCloud integration you will also be able to stream any TV show you previously purchased from your Apple ID.

Apple has defiantly made this a big update probably the best is TV Shows in the cloud but like me if you live in UK, you won’t have access to this just yet, but I recon Apple will sort it out at some point.

what do you think? Have you updated yet?

As a lot of brits I tend to spend a lot of time watching TV, but what happens when you miss it and that’s why certain broadcasters revealed on demand services, for people to watch selected shows over the internet, probably the best of these services is BBC iPlayer, which has become even better, as it has now been released for the iPad.

From today the BBC is beginning their global roll out for their new iPlayer app, which will be introduced into 11 additional countries across Western Europe, including The Republic of Ireland, The Netherlands, Austria, France, Germany, Belgium, Italy, Luxembourg, Portugal, Switzerland and Spain

But this won’t be the same service us Brits are used to, in fact it seems better the BBC say it is going to become more of an on-demand service rather than a catch-up service, which means in addition to offering fresh content from recent weeks, they will also be adding classic shows such as Only Fools and Horses and Never Mind The Buzzcocks (Not really a classic, but I enjoyed it).

The managing director of bbc.com, Luke Bradley-Jones sent a statement out to explain the new service:

“We think we have a load of unmet demand for BBC and British content internationally.

“This is not a catch-up service: this is a video-on-demand service. We will have content from the last month, but also the best from the catalogue stretching back 50 to 60 years.”

I don’t know about you but I am already getting jealous, but there is more as well as access to the BBC’s vast archive of shows, it will source some extra content from ITV Player and 4od. But as with everything there will be a small price to pay for the service, from which Europeans can sign up monthly for £6.99 or £49.99 for an annual subscription, but some of the content will be available for free.

The app for the iPhone will allow you to stream all of this content over both Wi-Fi and 3G whilst allowing you to download TV shows in order to watch them offline, but that’s not all the director revealed, according to Mr. Bradley-Jones the U.S may also be receiving BBC iPlayer pretty soon:

“The rights picture for the US is a little bit more complicated.

“The nature of the agreements with our rights partners are different, and the windows across our existing business are older than they are in Europe.

“Form our side, we have to jump through a few more of those commercial and legal hoops. We could have launched in the US with a product this week, but there would have been a few too many missing parts.”

Alongside this the app will also be released in 12 months for both the iPhone and AppleTV, which does seem a long time, I think it might get released a bit sooner on good behavior, if your wondering why the Andriod or Windows Phone hasn’t been mentioned yet it’s because the BBC are focusing solely on Apple devices for the time being, but plan to expand the service in the future:

“We hope that this service becomes multi-device, multi-platform and multi-territory over time, but as a premium-but-niche service, we did not want to go in with both feet from day one.

“We’re spending the next year in a pilot-type phase focusing on one device, to make a clean and very compelling experience. We have a great relationship with Apple in terms of the promotional commitments they’ll give us too.”

What do you think about this? Have you downloaded the App yet? What do you think about it?

Drop us a line or two in the comments below.

For a while now a lot of different iDevices have had access to 3G capabilities starting with the iPhone 3G, then to the iPhone 3GS, than the iPhone 4 and iPad and then finally the iPad 2, but their has been one device that has been left out from the mobile networking race for a long time, the iPod Touch.

But according to Dutch blog AppleSpot, Apple are soon to release a 3G capable iPod Touch, the claim that the new iPod Touch will be a lot like the current iPad you will still have your music and videos etc. But you will get access to the mobile internet to, which would be kinda cool but I’m not sure Apple will do this.

The main reason i don;t think Apple would release a 3G iPod Touch is the simple fact it would cut sales of the iPhone, the main reason a lot of people buy an iPhone is because it is all there Apple devices in one small and compact device, if the iPod Touch could do everything the iPhone can do then their would be no point in actually purchasing an iPhone.

Another reason is if the current rumors are true, Apple are releasing a iPhone 4S and 5 this year and next of which the 4S will be a downgraded model of the 5, which means Apple will need to focus on the marketing f these two products and will not have time for another release.

A translated quote from the AppleSpot:

“It will work just like the iPad; you get a 3G enabled simcard from your provider and put that in you iPod Touch”

“Apple’s choice of bringing 3G to the iPod Touch isn’t all that weird, if it’s true of course. Question remains how the providers will react to this, since the use of for example Skype will skyrocket.”

What do you think about this? Is their any chance in the rumor? Would you even need a 3G iPod Touch?

The beta build of iOS 5 was released this week and developers have been taking it apart to find the secrets inside and i’m going to share these with you here are the top 5:

1. 1080p system wide

A fifth generation iPhone has been rumored extensively at this point. As is customary with Apple’s smartphone, the next-gen iPhone will use the same chipset in the iPad which in this case is the A5 dual-core processor. A considerable advantage the A5 chip offers over its predecessor is 1080p support. iOS 5 taps into this hardware by offering video exports in apps in full HD 1080p. As you might imagine, this is in addition to 1080p playback both on and out of the device.

2. Twitter

Is the just the startLiz Gannes from All Things D was the first to announce iOS 5 may support more than just Twitter integration. Screenshots, leaked by the writer, show Facebook, Flickr, LinkedIn and Myspace as other ‘custom’ services may be baked into the core. Ms. Gannes believes Twitter is only the tip of the iceburg.

3. iOS 5 plays nice with Bluetooth audio devices

Smartphones have become integral parts of our car audio systems. With the advent of Bluetooth becoming a near standard feature in new vehicles, iOS 5 prepares to exploit the opportunity. You can now share your music over Bluetooth from your iPhone, iPad or iPod touch, complete with album, track and artist data.

4. Alerts

Customized for hearing impairedA minor annoyance in iOS has been the lack of control over alerts. With the advent of the Notification Center, we now have more control than ever over our iOS devices. Beyond the control over which programs notify in the banner area and lock screens, we will soon be able to set ‘Custom Vibrations’. As the name suggests, ‘Custom Vibrations’ will allow unique vibration patterns to be assigned to people in Contacts or all at once. In addition, you can now set LED Flash for Alerts, mono audio, and even control the left/right balance.

5. Your phone, your gestures

The iPad will be the single largest benefactor of iOS 5 gesture support. Using either four or five fingers you can now swipe at the bottom of the screen to reveal the multi-tasking menu or at the top to view alerts. In addition, swiping left and right will navigate between your open applications. While these are certainly great additions, Apple is also including custom gesture support to interact with adaptive accessories. There’s a panel to create custom gestures baked right inside iOS 5.

What do you think about these features? Do you think there’s any more from Apple to come? Are you looking forward to iOS 5?

Over the past few years Apple has left a few rule breaking apps slip through their intensive control of the iTunes App Store, apps like iDOS and Fake Mario and then banned them later on, but if you managed to download these banned apps before Apple pulled the plug, there is a way to keep it by using Apple’s new service iCloud.

Within iCloud you can see every single app you have bought in the past from the App Store and re-download them to your phone, even if you deleted them in the past including those banned apps you wish you still had.

But from my experience Apple will more than likely remove this before releasing iOS 5, so if you’re not a developer you more than likely wont be able to take advantage of this great loophole.

What banned apps did you used to have? Are you hoping Apple don’t fix this? Or do you still have those apps stashed away?

On Apples WWDC presentation last week they only shown us a handful of new features within iOS, even though there was apparently 200 odd new features, from which they shown a slide showing them all in different sizes of font, which is when one caught our eye.

If you look carefully under ‘accessible input for mobility’, there is something a little more interesting in small print, ‘LED flash on incoming calls and alerts’, this may not seem much to you until you think about it, iPhone 4 only has LED flash on the back of the phone.

Now it would make absolutely no sense for Apple to notify you by creating a flash for incoming calls on the back would it, but there is no flash on the front, so what does this mean? Is it a clue of one of the new features of an iPhone 5? Do you think it is? Is all of these feature getting just a little bit to BlackBerry for you?

Notification Center

Most of the complaints I personally have heard about iOS 4 have been about the (lets face it) crappy handeling of notifications, which currently pop up in the middle of the screen blocking your view of what you are currently doing on the device, forcing you to deal with the notification before resuming your game, from which once dismissed there was no more notification to remind you what the notification actually was.

With iOS5 this will no longer be the case as yesterday Apple reveled their new notifications centre with a more colorful message appearing at the top of the screen when your device receives a notifications which auto-dismisses, but thats not it also you can then see this message after it has dismissed by swiping down to see the full notifications centre. (I know about time right?)

Most of the Apple haters out there will respond to this as Notifications centre is apparently copying Andriods pull-down notification pane, but really it isn’t because there is one more feature that Apple have added you can also see your notifications on your lock-screen and view the apps right from there, Boom!

Camera

Another feature Apple have added is completely redesigned to camera experience, promising a much faster camera launch time in iOS5, with the integration of a button on the lock-screen to start the camera straight from there, (sounds great right) it is, first question out the way, No you cannot accidently press this as you have to double tap the home button before this button will appear, and also if you have a pass-code lock on your phone it will still allow you to take the photo but nothing else gallery etc will be locked. Plus they have imaging feature like focus and aperture lock and on device editing software killing the need for any third party applications, Win! Oh and you can take a photo with the volume up button.

iMessenger

Bigger focus on cloud computing

This one’s a no-brainer. Cupertino basically reworked its Apple TV into little more than a cloud terminal, didn’t it? The company also bought Siri, a developer that figured out how to work off-site services into an extremely elegant application. And word has it that Apple is even building a mongo data center in North Carolina capable of handling a monstrous load like the iOS userbase. So it would seem that Apple is clearly interested in cloud services. But even if it wasn’t, it would likely be aware that others are: Amazon has already gotten cloud-happy, and word has it that Google is looking into media locker–type services too. iOS 4.3?s Home Sharing capabilities is a great start. Hopefully soon, along with the planned Find My Friends and Media Stream features, we’ll also see more robust iTunes cloud services.

PROBABLE

Wireless iTunes syncing

And while we’re at it, here’s a related subsection of cloud services that really warrants more pitchforks and torches in the Cupertino parking lot: Wireless syncing. (Is anyone else sick and tired of hunting down that white cable?) Thanks to Cydia’s Wi-Fi Sync, jailbreakers know that it’s more than possible to sync our content to our devices without that blasted wire. Now, in light of cloud service getting some attention, Apple might finally be recognizing it too. It’s not a lock, but it’s very possible that some black turtleneck-sporting, jeans-wearing execs could be giving this one a green light.

POSSIBLE (and highly desired)

Near Field Communications (NFC)

Using your phone to pay for items with a single swipe, or connecting to other iOS devices to share info easily, seamlessly — this is the promise of NFC. Whether the next iPhone will offer this remains to be seen. But if it does arrive, we’d love to see open developer access to this feature. How likely is that? To be honest, I’d bet that this won’t arrive in any meaningful way until at least iOS 6. It simply doesn’t have the demand or saturation level to warrant the huge undertaking that an immediate launch would require. Sorry, NFC fans. I doubt it’s coming this year.

UNLIKELY

Adobe Flash support

Absolutely, positively not. Sorry. If you’re a phone geek, you’re already aware that Apple, i.e. Steve Jobs, absolutely abhors Adobe Flash, considering it a messy resources-draining bit of antiquity, despite its preponderance on the webs. If you’re not a phone geek, then let me break it to you the best way I know how: “Snap out of it! [*slap slap*] It ain’t gonna happen.” Sorry for not being gentle. Consider it tough love.

WHEN PIGS FLY

4G support

Maybe this ought to be in a separate hardware post instead, but it’s so anticipated, I’m throwing it in here anyway. (Plus, if the iPhone 5 features this, the software would need to support it, no?) But sorry, boys and girls — 4G support is extremely unlikely, at least by summer 2011. The chances go up a little if the handset debuts in September, as the rumors suggest. Having a little extra time to work out the battery issues that a power-hungry, next-gen network could induce would surely help. But even then — I still don’t think the 4G coverage will be widespread enough to make this a high priority item … at least for now.

UNLIKELY

A refreshed user interface

Let’s face it: iOS is looking a little long in the tooth, isn’t it? Yes, the folders help bring some organization to our homescreens, not to mention the multitasking bar, but that same old app grid is getting pretty stale.

Left to its own machinations, Apple would probably leave things be for a while longer. After all, the look and feel of Mac OS X has been going on for even longer than iOS. But competition is getting stiffer, and its mobile devices (though still hugely popular) aren’t really innovating forward anymore. In fact, it’s got some catching up to do in some important areas, both hardware-wise and software-wise.

Nothing says revolutionary change more than a revamped UI — it’s the first thing users will see and feel. So I think the platform absolutely needs a facelift, and it will probably get it along with other changes. The only question is whether it will be in iOS 5 or 6.

POSSIBLE

Other features we might see in iOS 5:

Enhanced lock screen. Imagine: A screen that houses all of your major alerts or other data would be really useful, wouldn’t it? If iDevice users won’t be getting widgets (see below), then this would help make up for that, at least for the non jailbreakers out there. (The Cydia-loving masses have packages like LockInfo.) Again, probably not super high on the priority list for Cupertino, but this wouldn’t be a difficult tweak to deliver, as LockInfo and other illicit apps prove. So I could see it possibly coming along for the ride with other major changes, to give the UI a fresher feel.

User profiles. The need for user profiles wasn’t big back when iPhones and iPod Touches were the only gadgets rocking that little “i.” But things have changed. Apple dipped a toe in the fragmentation pool when the iPad got introduced, resulting in 2010 being the year of iOS trying to tame the various devices. Eventually, things finally got under control when 4.2 finally brought all the gadgets under one umbrella late last year, and now we have one version of iOS to rule them all. This is significant. Unlike phones, which tend to be under one user’s control, tablets are often shared in households. There’s no way this has escaped Apple’s attention. At some point, its devs will enable user profiles, just like it does in Mac OS X. And I’d wager, whenever it is that they pull the trigger on this feature, all iOS users will get the functionality as well.

User-definable dictionary. There are ways to add things to the dictionary, particularly if you have other languages enabled, but they are neither obvious nor elegant. That’s why so many iOS users still deal with irritatingly absurd autocorrect fails. (There’s even a site dedicated to that.) Sure, Apple is a little… ahem, strict when it comes to its closed eco-system, but could it remain so rigid as to keep users out of their own smartphone dictionaries? Well, it has so far. But like the UI tweaks, this wouldn’t be such a hard thing to include, and it would please an awful lot of users.

Did I really almost send a friend to meet me at Beat Street? Ugh

FaceTime over 3G. I don’t want to say, “Liar, liar, pants on fire,” but Apple’s promise that FaceTime would work over the cellular airwaves hasn’t exactly panned out yet. Then again, it may not be the company’s fault. It’s possible that 3G vid chat is so miserably bad that Apple just can’t abide it. If that’s the case, FaceTime may stay tethered to Wifi until more 4G markets open up. In other words, it could be the white iPhone 4 syndrome, with Jobs & Co. not wanting to knowingly release it with big flaws. But there’s another side to this — Apple has very publicly promised 3G FaceTime. Would it be willing to stand yet another PR flop by re-negging? Hard to say. I think it’s possible that it will come, though it’s not quite probable yet.

Things I badly want, but don’t think iOS 5 will offer:

Widgets. This is among the top 2 things that has me drooling whenever I see an Android device. Of course there are limits. (MotoBlur anyone? Yech. Sorry, not my favorite.) Perhaps a nice Sense-ish implementation could give the aging OS some new life. Sure, this wouldn’t be innovating forward — more like borrowing from an existing UI that gets it right — but hey, I wouldn’t quibble. Offer some pretty-looking auto-updating widgets, and you’ll have some happy users on your hands, Apple. Jussayin.

Sense + iOS? It’s so wrong, it’s right

Notifications. This is the other thing that has me jealous of Android users (and even WebOS users). It’s mind-boggling how such a popular platform has neglected this crucial aspect of the mobile users’ experience. iOS has simply one of the worst notifications systems out there, and it’s high time it got a makeover. (Clarification: Perhaps I should’ve moved this further up the list — I do think it’s possible that Apple will do something to the notifications, but it won’t be the subtly elegant top or bottom loading ones like on the other platforms. If anything, I predict that notifications will still look the same, except that maybe a retrievable list of alerts will be housed in the multitasking bar.)

Better camera app. We can’t share photos with our social networks or tweak finer settings with the native app? Is this 1999? Please. We live in a media-obsessed culture. Sharing is vital. So is taking pics of our cats in goofy goggles, so let us change the white balance on Felix, k? Thanks.

_____

The most anticipated on the list are cloud services, and this one area could change things up substantially. Moving media storage off the device and letting off-site computation replace a lot of local processes would free up system resources. That means the limited hardware of smartphones would no longer be quite so bogged down, and could get a sudden boost to potentially work faster and better.

But as with anything good, there’s also some potential bad. With more emphasis on the cloud, data traffic will need to be watched even more carefully, especially with the carriers’ penchant for data capping and tiered plans. For example, I know people who excitedly watched a ton of Netflix movies when they first got their iPads — only to face a wallet-slapping bill shortly after.

Do you agree or disagree with any of these predictions? What are you looking forward to (or hope to see) in iOS 5? Let us know what’s on your wish list by chiming in below. And if you’ve got a few iPhone 5 desires, feel free to deposit them in the comments as well.

UPDATE:

Gestures — how could I leave that out? Of course iOS will have gestures — Apple wouldn’t file patents for things without some sort of game plan, right? (Kidding. It does that all the time.) Seriously, I do think it’s coming, but I’d be surprised if it arrived in iOS 5.0. Maybe 5.1 or 5.2. This would affect everything on a systemwide basis, so it’s hard to imagine they’d rush to throw this in there. And they’d certainly have to loop the third-party devs, so they could support gestures as well. So I see this as more of a timing issue. (Thanks to all who mentioned!)
