If you are hot on what’s newly released in the App Store, you may have downloaded Apple’s unfinished GameStore application which was “prematurely” released yesterday, soon finding ou that the app was useless.

The app basically included a set of in-app purchase options for various gaming goods, with the description stating “allows you to buy different things from within the app.”, however, the app itself did not actually include any games.

Erica Sadun from TUAW analysed some of the code strings from the app and has since suggested that the app could just be a “sample code” which has been set up to allow developers to test in-app purchases within their own applications.

The 99 cent app was released briefly on the 31st of December, with Apple listed as the developer, but as a lot of people may have noticed whilst the app functioned it did not do anything, Apple has since pulled the app from the store, alongside this e-mail to anyone who purchased the app:

What do you think? Is this an app to be launched in the future? Or was it just a test app?
