Pubic acquisitions by Apple doesn’t happen to often, however today is one of those days as it has just been announced that the company has now acquired the chipmaker, Passif.
A low energy chipmaker, Passif create low power communication chips, which are bound to by used by Apple in upcoming smartphones and other devices to try to increase battery life.
It’s also thought that the company will be using this technology in iOS 7 to improve location awareness, allowing smartphones and tablets to connect to receivers and transmitters installed in various locations and display relevant information provided by places like shops and museums.
However there’s nothing official yet, so we will just have to wait and see what Apple do with this acquisition, or in fact some of their past acquisitions.
