TechCrunch are today reporting that Apple has acquired the speech recognition technology company, Novauris in order to better their own mobile personal assistant Siri, using Novauris’s employees to develop more features and functionalities for the service.

Apple confirmed the acquisition to TechCrunch earlier with the following cut and paste statement: “Apple buys smaller technology companies from time to time, and we generally do not discuss our purpose or plans.”

Despite them not revealing any plans, TechCrunch has a few ideas about the acquisition, and have revealed a feel details alongside it writing: “Novauris had been developing its own large-vocabulary, automatic speech recognition (ASR) technology for access to information stored locally on mobile devices or remotely on servers, which they patented in the U.S. and abroad, and licensed to major corporations worldwide.”

Reports are also suggesting that the acquisition actually took place last year, but has only just been announced, however according to these reports, the team from Novaruis are apparently already working at Apple on Siri.
