During their event in Cupertino today Apple announced an update to the iPad Mini 2, dubbed the iPad Mini 3.

The new iPad Mini has one main feature and that is the inclusion of a Touch ID sensor. This comes alongside a 7.9 inch Retina display, a 5MP iSight camera with 1080p video recording, a FaceTime HD camera on the front and support for 802.11n WiFi with MIMO.

The tablet will come in a number of colour options including silver, space grey and gold.

Pre-orders for the iPad Mini 3 will start on October 17th, and the tablet will start at $399 in the US for the 16GB version.

Aside from that there’s not much else new with the iPad Mini 3, so just a small update but one that is certainly important.
