It seems as though the next iPhone could be getting NFC after all, or something similar too as Apple have just been granted a patent to their own version of the technology.

The patent which was granted by the US Patent and Trademark Office describes “techniques for triggering a process within a portable electronic device that identifies itself for purposes of establishing communications with another device that is in proximity.”

Which is basically NFC technology with an “innovative” twist, the same technology that has been used in Android phones for quite some time now and can be used with a variety of services and products in order t conduct certain actions wirelessly.

This most defiantly has something to do with the new Passbook application that Phil Schiller, Apple’s senior vice president of worldwide marketing said is an alternative to the technology.
