Apple has today launched a new app called Music Memos alongside an update to its GarageBand application.

The Music Memos app is similar to the Voice Memos one, but has been designed specifically for music, allowing you to record any instrument via your iPhone and save it in a high-quality, uncompressed file that you can tag, rate and add to your library.

With this you are able to build up a collection of ideas around a single song or group of songs, helping with the creation process.

The app can also be used to analyze the rhythm and chords of certain instruments and add virtual backing to it, add all this can be synced with the GarageBand and Logic Pro X applications via iCloud.

Music Memos is now available on the App Store for the iPhone 4S or later, or the iPad 2 or later. You can find out more about it here.
