9 to 5 mac recently claimed that apple is testing a new iPhone with an A5X chip much like that in the new iPad, currently, this is only reported to be internal, but if true could mean a new iPhone very soon, this is what 9 to 5 mac said:

Much like they did last year, Apple has internally seeded a prototype next-generation iPhone with the iPhone 4 design. The actual next-generation iPhone is specifically said to not include the iPhone 4/4S design, but Apple is testing these new devices in older casings to throw off leaks. The purpose of the prototype iPhone that we heard about is to test a variation of the “A5X” chip in an iPhone.

With a new A5x chip, this would mean the iPhone would have quad-core graphics, and is likely to also include 1GB of RAM, which would defiantly make gaming a lot faster. Internally the iPhone 5 is codenamed N96. As well as the rumours from 9 to 5 mac a Japanese news crew filming at Foxconn back in March reported got word from an employee that Apple is planning to launch this new iPhone in June, whereas Maeil Business Newspaper says that it will, in fact, launch this fall sourcing from Foxconn’s head of human resources in the Taiyuan factory:

“We just got the order,” “[The release] will be around October.”

Alongside the iPhone 5 or N96, the report also mentioned a new iPod Touch codenamed ‘iPod5,1’  which due to its name could reference a new hardware update for the iPod Touch with an iOS 5.1 update, given that the device has been left without an update since October this could be very likely.

What do you think? Are these rumours true? When will the iPhone 5 launch?
