A recent flaw in Apple’s new iOS 5 platform is suspected to be the reason for some very poor battery life from the brand new iPhone 4S, for which the new ‘setting time zone’ option within the location services seems to be the problem to the 4S’s poor battery life.

The option seems to be running even when the user has not moved from one-time zone to the other, as such the device is forever checking whether you are in a different time zone, which is extremely inefficient and can drain the phone’s battery power over the course of a day.

Oliver Haslam from iDownloadBlog said this:

“it appears that iOS 5?s GM release introduced a bug that causes the Setting Time Zone function to keep the location tracking circuitry running constantly, draining battery power considerably. Switching it off may mean that your iPhone will no longer set its own time zone when you travel, but that’s a small price to pay for having your iPhone last more than 12 hours on a full charge… We have tested this method on 4 different iPhone 4s handsets, including an iPhone 4 and an iPhone 3GS. All have reported drastically improved battery life after switching ‘Setting Time Zone’ off.”

The best way to fix this problem is simply to cut off the option altogether, stopping your iPhone 4S from trying to find your location in the first place, and when you actually want the feature just turns it back on again, to find the option go to Settings > Location Services > Then scroll down to the bottom of the page where you will find ‘System Services > Change Setting Time Zone to On/Off

What do you think? Have you had the same problem? Did turning off the Time Zone setting work?
