Something that happened earlier this week shows how confusing some of the smartphone companies marketing campaigns can be, after Archos’ CEO, Loic Poirier learnt the true difference between IP ratings during a demonstration.

Accidentally killing one of the company’s phones during a test of its water resistance, Poirier thought that the Quechua smartphone he was demonstrating had an IP57 rating (meaning it was waterproof), when it in fact had an IP54 (meaning it wasn’t).

Placing the device in a glass and covering it with water, the CEO quickly learns about this problem whilst on camera.
