The BBC has today announced that they will be launching five new HD channels tomorrow (Tuesday 10 December), including CBBC HD, CBeebies HD, BBC Three, HD, BBC Four HD and BBC News HD, this will boost the BBCs total list to seven HD channels in time for Christmas.

All of the channels will be available to any Sky subscriber, despite whether they are paying for an HD subscription or not, but they will need a HD Sky box to access it, however you won’t be able to watch BBC News HD until January, which has been delayed in order to avoid problems that could be caused by a rushed changeover.

Various Freeview TVs and set-top boxes will also be able to pick up the new channel, and will be available automatically, however some might need to be restarted.

In order to boost the channels, Ofcom has licensed extra bandwidth with Arqiva, allowing for more room for these new channels.
