Summer is fast approaching and so are the holidays.
As cameras have developed over the last few years, action cameras have become more popular. They are quite cool little cameras that allow you capture just what their name suggests, action.
You can grab a range of these cameras from ones that are great for recording on top of fast moving objects up to recording underwater.
Here are the ones that we think are the best that are currently available:
GoPro Hero5 Black
GoPro are quite well known in the action camera arena, they have a range of these cameras available and the Hero5 Black is one of the best.
It’s great for a range of activities as it weighs just 118 grams and is waterproof in up to 10m of water.
The Black can also shoot 4K video at 30/25/24 fps, 1080p video at up to 120 fps and 720p video at up to 240 fps. To top that off, it can take stills at 12MP and has a 1-3 hour battery life.
GoPro Hero5 Session
GoPro’s Hero5 Session is smaller and lighter than the Hero5 Black at just 74g, however, it still features some pretty awesome specs.
It’s waterproof at a depth of 10m, can record 4K video at 30/25/24fps, 1080p video at up to 90fps, 720p video at up to 120fps and it can take stills at 10MP.
It also has a battery that lasts for around 2 hours.
The TomTom Bandit is a bit different from the other action cameras, not only can it record 4K video at 15fps, 1080p video at up to 60fps, and 720p at up to 120fps but it also uses TomTom’s experience in GPS experience to build something more into it.
The Bandit comes with a range of sensors that can record location, speed, and G-force, all of which can automatically tag the footage with this data.
On top of that, the camera also connects to an app from where you can automatically edit footage with a shake of your phone.
Garmin Virb XE
Garmin also has a lot of experience with GPS and so they also built that into an action camera, the Virb XE.
This camera weighs just 152g, and is waterproof at a depth of 50m.
Sadly it cannot record 4K video, however, it can record 1080p footage at up to 60fps, 720p footage at up to 120fps, and stills at 12MP.
The FDR-X1000V action camera is pretty cool. It comes with a range of tech from Sony including their 170-degree ultra-wide ZEISS Tessar lens, their StedyShot tech for better recording, and their knowledge of the 4K arena.
It is waterproof at a depth of up to 10m with the case on, can record 4K video at 30/25/24fps, 1080p video at up to 120fps, 720p video at up to 240fps and stills at 8.8MP.
The Olfi one.five is as well known as some of the other cameras on this list, however, that doesn’t mean you shouldn’t consider it.
It’s pretty darn cheap and yet includes some great specs.
The one.five is waterproof at up to 30m with the included case, weighs just 55g or 110g with the case, can record 4K video at 24fps, 1080p video at up to 60fps, 720p video at up to 120fps, and stills at 16MP.
The Olympus TG-Tracker is part of their Tough range of cameras, which means that it is great for even the most requiring of action recording.
It is waterproof at up to 30m and features a very rugged build. On top of that it can record 4K video at 30fps, 1080p at up to 60fps, 720p at up to 240fps, and stills at a resolution of 7.2MP
