With 2016 coming to a close, we have decided to do a few roundups of the best things to happen during the year, so far we have looked at the best tech, the best iPad cases, and the best Power Banks of the year. Now it is time to take you through what we think are the best games of 2016.
All of these games were released during the year and include titles from the start all the way up until the finish, they are games that we have spent many hours in and view as some of the best experiences that are currently available for the gamer.
Here they are in no particular order:
Superhot is a fantastic game to start this list off with, it is an independently made title for the PC and consoles that has a unique perspective on the first-person shooter.
In the game, players are treated to awesome art and gameplay in which time will only pass when their character moves, players must use this to their advantage in order to complete a set of interesting puzzles.
Dishonored 2 is a fairly new action-adventure stealth video game that was released in November 2016. As the name suggests, it is a sequel to the original Dishonored game, but unlike other sequels, it builds upon what Arkane Studios had already done with the series, with more stealth, play styles, gameplay, and a brand new female character to get attached to.
Dark Souls 3
The third part of From Software’s Dark Souls trilogy was highly anticipated this year, building upon the already existing and heavy lore for the game, Dark Souls 3 provides a challenge to the gamer that is not recognised in many other titles, featuring a brand new and refined combat system and brand new environments to use that system within.
2016 was a great year for indie games, we were treated to many fantastic titles to throw our money at and boy did they deliver.
When talking about 2016-released indie games, we have to mention Firewatch. It’s a fantastic title that brings an awesome narrative to the gaming industry, one that made us think, fell and be excited about. There’s no question that this is one of the best games of 2016.
Blizzard’s Overwatch came as somewhat of a blessing to the gamer who has been patiently waiting for a great FPS game. That’s because Overwatch is simply one of the best FPS games that have ever been released, let alone in 2016.
It features a great set of imaginative and personal characters that use a set of finely tuned combat moves to result in an FPS game that is not only fun to play, but also competitive.
When Titanfall was first released there were a lot of questions as to if it was a good game or not, some loved the fresh gameplay ideas, while others disliked the overall gameplay and simply wanted a better single-player experience.
Titanfall 2 took on those complaints and built a game that takes all of the great stuff from the first Titanfall game and builds upon it further, featuring a brand new single-player experience, fast-paced gameplay, and more intense Titan battles that are sure to provide you with your mech-battling fix.
Although the game has worn off a little as of late, we can’t think of another game that was released in 2016 that took the world by storm as much as Pokemon Go, featuring gameplay elements that took players through a great experience of catching all of the Pokemon they want, in the world that they live.
And although it had a range of problems during its release from poor servers up to a broken tracking system, Pokemon Go was easily one of the most engaging games of 2016.
As we mentioned earlier, there have been a lot of great indie games in 2016. One of those games is Inside.
Developed by the same people who worked on the epic Limbo title, Inside delivers a fantastic puzzle-platformer that amazes with great visuals and a focused story that shows how games can truly provide experiences like what cinema does.
Uncharted 4: A Thief’s End
There are some titles that we don’t even need to explain the reasoning for being in this list, Uncharted 4 is one of those titles. It’s a great action-adventure game that takes the player on a globe-trotting treasure hunt, featuring fantastic visuals and storytelling along the way.
The Last Guardian
The Last Guardian is another one of those titles that needs no introduction.
It is a title that has to be one of the most anticipated games of all time, aside from Half-Life 3, we can’t think of another title that so many gamers have been waiting so long for.
But it is not on this list simply because it was highly anticipated. Although it is flawed in some elements, The Last Guardian has breathtaking gameplay that takes the player through the story of a boy and his beast as they work their way through a set of puzzles. It is a fantastic story and you should definitely give it a go if you have enough patience to do so.
