Buffalo Technology has today announced its latest external storage drive that has been designed for use with Apple’s Thunderbolt port, dubbed the DriveStation Mini Thunderbolt SSD it is capable of copying 800MB of data in just 1.3 seconds.

Inside the drive there’s not one but two 2.5 inch SSDs with a SATA III 6Gb/s interface inside, it features two Thunderbolt ports that when used together can provide read and write speeds of around 615MB/s and 760MB/s respectively.

All of which sounds pretty interesting in itself, but according to Buffalo you can squeeze out even more performance when daisy chaining one of the drives with up to six others, and can be paired with a capable host to add RAID.

The drives will be available in 512MB and 1TB sizes and will retail at £600 for the smaller drive and £850 for the larger 1TB drive, obviously it will only be available for Mac however.
