Today Niantic, the developers of the Pokemon Go mobile game announced that players will soon have the chance to catch a Mewtwo.

This comes after the legendary was unlocked after its successful capture during the recent Pokemon Go Stadium event in Japan.

Because of the work from the attendees, players from around the world will get the opportunity to catch Mewtwo in Pokemon Go as part of a new feature that they are calling Exclusive Raid Battles, which are a special type of raid battle that will periodically appear” at Gyms.

They will work exactly the same as the rest of the raid battles aside from one thing, you will need an invitation to take part.

Niantic explained:

“Unlike existing raids, trainers will be invited to join an exclusive raid battle. To receive an invitation to participate in an exclusive raid battle, trainers must have successfully completed a raid recently, by defeating the raid boss, at the gym where the exclusive raid battle will be taking place. The invitations will include advance warning of when the exclusive raid will take place, giving them ample time to coordinate with other trainers before taking on the powerful raid boss.”

To get an invite you will have had to have completed a Raid recently at the same location where this Exclusive Raid Battle is being held.

We don’t know how much time recently is, however, Niantic said that they will provide invitees with “advance warning” to provide “ample time to coordinate with other trainers.”, and you are probably going to need a lot of mates to battle this one.

Sadly, Mewtwo is still a few weeks off from launch, however, Niantic did say that other Pokemon will be coming to raids soon.

On top of that, they announced that Articuno, Zapdos, Moltres, and Lugia will be available to catch again through Raid Battles from today up until August 31st.
