Anyone who owns a Samsung Smart TV can now stream their games from Steam straight to their Samsung-branded TV without the need for any other device.

This is with the release of the new Steam Link app, which was launched in beta this week and can be downloaded from the Samsung App Store on a Samsung Smart TV today, allowing you to get your games on the big screen without hassle.

The app currently supports an output of 1080p at 60 frames per second, along with support for the Steam Controller and the wired Xbox 360 controller. They have said that they are looking to expand this with 4K streaming and with additional controller support in the near future.

It will have to exit its beta stage first, which is expected to happen later this year.

With this app, you won’t need a separate Steam Link set-top box, which you will normally need to stream games from Steam and would normally cost around £40.

This streaming will require a decent internet connection, you can use wireless, however, Valve suggests that you use the 5GHz frequency when doing that and that you should use a wired connection if possible as this will result in a better streaming experience.

We will update you as this develops.
