Canon have today announced during Photokina 2012 the PowerShot SX50, with a 50x optical zoom lens with a 24mm to 1200mm wide-angle, image stabilisation and a near silent ultrasonic motor driving the lens.

There’s also a new “Seek and Lock” function which will allow you to, at the press of a button, the lens will zoom out to a set target.

The SX50 has also been built on the HS System, with a Digic 5 processor and a 12 megapixel 2/3 inch type sensor.

Last but not least there’s also a 2.8 swivel LCD display on the back alongside the electronic viewfinder, partnered with a few advanced controls to keep the pros happy.

The Canon PowerShot SX50 HS will launch in late October and will cost £440.99.
