Today Canon unveiled a new lens that you might be interested in if you shoot a lot of macro photography.

Called the EF-S 35mm f/2.8 Macro IS STM lens, it is particularly interesting because it features an LED light ring built right into it, allowing for better lighting, without the need for a separate lighting setup.

That LED light is situated at the end of the lens barrel and can be switched on with the switch on the side of the lens, helping you to better illuminate your subject and reduce unwanted shadows. It also has a mode switch, which allows you to turn on the left or right side light individually, at full or half power, or have both lights on at full of half power at the same time.

Canon designed it to work with their range of APS-C DSLRs, featuring a 35mm optic, a focal length equivalent to 56mm in full-frame terms, as well as an aperture of up to f/2.8.

To top that off, it also weighs just 190g, with the ability to focus down to just 30mm, along with a 1.0x magnification, and a Hybrid IS system that provides up to four stops of shake correction.

It also comes with Canon’s Smooth Movie Servo AF and STM motor for quiet AF operation when shooting video.

The Canon EF-S 35mm f/2.8 Macro IS STM lens will launch in June for $349.99 in the US or £399.99 in the UK.
