Smartphone announcements don’t happen too often during CES, that is unless the feature something different from the usual models, so upon hearing that Cat had launched a new feature phone called the Cat B100, I was immediately intrigued.

Offering up IP67 and MIL 810G protection levels, the Cat B100 has been designed to take on the most hazardous environments such as drops, water damage or even extreme temperatures, but this does mean that some of the usual smartphone features have been left out somewhat.

Featuring a 2.2 inch 240 x 320 pixel display with a traditional smartphone keypad, the specs don’t excite that much, and they remain that way as you proceed through the list, only continuing to mention its 3 megapixel camera, noise-cancelling microphone and a custom OS.

However as Dave Floyd, Co-CEO of Bullitt Mobile said in his statement “The Cat B100 is a practical and tough mobile phone, designed for people who demand ultimate reliability.”

The Cat B100 is already available in Europe and will hit other markets in the first half of 2014.
