Angry Birds has most definitely become one of the most popular mobile game series since it launched a few years ago, developed by Rovio a number of games have been added to the series since this launch date, all of which quickly made there way to the top of the app download charts.

Despite its success, it appears that not everything is going as planned for Rovio, with the company revealing that they will be laying off 130 of its staff members who are based in Finland.

This lay-off will mean that Rovio will lose about 16 per cent of their total staff.

Here’s the statement from Rovio:

“We are an entrepreneurial company and have been exploring multiple areas. We have been building our team on assumptions of faster growth than have materialized. As a result, we announced today that we plan to simplify our organization around our three key businesses with the highest growth potential: games, media, and consumer products. Unfortunately, we also need to consider possible employee reductions of a maximum of 130 people in Finland (approximately 16% of workforce).”

This is due to the fact that Rovio expected that their revenue and game sales will grow more than it currently has, but without this the company says that they need to lay-off some of the extra staff they gained from hiring more for the potential growth.
