D-Link has today announced a new Wi-Fi Smart Plug that will link to your iPhone, iPad and Android devices using various applications that allows you to control your lighting or other appliances from anywhere where there is an internet connection.

The plug has been named the DSP-W215 Wi-Fi Smart Plug, and will work by being plugged into a socket, and then plugging your appliance or light into the plug itself.

The appliance or light that is then plugged into this port can then be controlled using the mydlink application for smartphones or tablets.

Through the app you can then switch on or off the device that is connected remotely, and create schedules for when you are away or when want to have the appliance on for when you arrive home.

There’s also overheating protection in the device that will automatically turn off any appliances that may be overheating using an internal internal sensor.

The plug will also monitor power consumption of connected devices, granting the viewer read-outs through the application.

The D-Link WiFi Smart Plug (DSP-W215) is now available in the US for $49.99, and will hit the UK soon, for more information you can head on over to dlink.com.
