[one_fourth][/one_fourth]In an email sent to Game Informer, Disney announced earlier today that after acquiring the company alongside LucasFilm, they have decided to shut down LucasArts after “evaluating our position in the games market”, the full statement continues:

“After evaluating our position in the games market, we’ve decided to shift LucasArts from an internal development to a licensing model, minimizing the company’s risk while achieving a broader portfolio of quality Star Wars games. As a result of this change, we’ve had layoffs across the organization. We are incredibly appreciative and proud of the talented teams who have been developing our new titles.”

No ones sure what this means for there currently developing titles such as Star Wars 1313 and Star Wars: First Assault, however it’s likely they may simply be ditched.

A truly sad day for gaming, however to make it worse, Kotaku have also reported that 150 employees from LucasArts have been laid off due to the closure, and are stating that the games have in fact been canceled, even though Game Informer’s source claims the company is, “evaluating its options regarding projects currently in development, which could be licensed out to external development and publishing partners.”

Which is all way to confusing, probable best to expect the worst and wait for the official news, check out the sources for more in the meantime.
