Electronic Arts has this week announced that they will be launching their own eSports division, called the , it will host a number of eSports competitions for EA’s franchises in sports and other genres, including Madden NFL, FIFA and Battlefield.

Petter Moore, the company’s previous Chief Operating Officer will move into the role of leading the Division as both EA’s executive vice president and chief competition officer,

Moore will continue to remain in his position until March 2016, Todd Sitrin will also join Moore as the Senior Vice President and General Manager of the Competitive Gaming Division.

“The formation of the Competitive Gaming Division is a groundbreaking opportunity for Electronic Arts to celebrate your passion for play and competition,” Wilson explained.

This news comes after a number of other publishers have done the same, with Blizzard, Activision and Microsoft Studios all announcing new eSports divisions this year.

However these are for games that already have well established communities, so it will be interesting to see how well EA’s new division works with games that are only just stepping into the eSports community.
