Epson has today unveiled a new printer that hopes to get rid of ink cartridges for good, these have been dubbed the EcoTank printers, which will be included in Epson’s new SuperTank catagory, which come with huge tanks of ink that Epson say should last about two years before they would need to be replaced.
“Epson’s EcoTank launch represents a sea change in today’s printer market,” said Barbara Richards, senior consultant, InfoTrends. “Establishing a new printer category – Supertank – Epson is positioning itself for significant market expansion. The appeal of low-cost, hassle-free color printing in business and in the home has potential to capture a significant share of the market.”
According to Epson, the entire printer has about the same capacity as 20 sets of ink cartridges, once this runs low the user simply need to top it off with a bottle of ink.
This not only means that you are getting m0re ink for your money, but you are also throwing away less packaging a plastic.
And the good thing is that is the new printer isn’t too expensive either, priced from just $379 in the US for the printer, and $52 for a set of four different colour bottles.
