If you are anything like me then it’s likely that you have never heard about drone racing before, but yes it is indeed a thing, and ESPN plans to broadcast it.

This was officially revealed today by ESPN, who revealed that they have signed a deal with the International Drone Racing Association (IDRA) to bring the championships to ESPN this year.

The U.S. National Drone Racing Championships will be broadcasted on ESPN in August 2016, which will take place on Governors Island in New York from August 5th to August 7th.

Dr. Scot Refsland, Chairman of the IDRA explained the race:

“Drone racing gives anyone the ability to fly like a superhero, because everyone can experience the thrill of racing as if they were sitting in the drone cockpit, the sport is skyrocketing.  To go from a first ever, US national drone race to partnering with ESPN for international distribution in eight months is truly a sign of great things ahead.”
