After a decision in Europe’s General Court, it was deemed that all music royalties societies must now allow artists to sign up to any society off their choice and make multi-country licenses available to those who request.

This will irradiate the current system, which meant each European country had their own society who would only deal with artist in their own country, this new deal would mean that they will be forced to deal with any artist, making licensing of music a lot easier for companies such as Apple, Spotify and Google.

The action comes after the British online music provider, Music Choice complained that their customers where only able to buy songs in their country of residence.

This new deal will mean that the current monopoly’s within this sector will start to become smaller, forced to work with one another and allowing for further innovation within the field.
