Facebook have today launched new Verified Pages for celebrities, high-profile persons and businesses, all of which once accepted will then find a small, blue check mark on their official Facebook Page.

The badge looks a lot like Twitter’s version of the verified badge, and will be shown beside profile names on user timelines as well as in search results.

In their press release, Facebook said the following about the new “check-mark”: “Verified Pages belong to a small group of prominent public figures (celebrities, journalists, government officials, popular brands and businesses) with large audiences.”

Users won’t be able to request to have their profile or Page verified, as they would be verifying users themselves and users can report fake accounts that are impersonating someone, a business or a brand.
