Electronic Arts has today announced that a woman will be featured on the FIFA 16 cover, this is the first time a woman has ever been featured on the game’s cover.

The woman to be featured will be the US football team member, Alex Morgan who helped lead her Women’s National Team to victory during this year’s World Cup, she will be featured on the cover alongside Lionel Messi.

 

“It is an incredible honor to be one of the first women featured on the cover of FIFA,” Alex Morgan said in a statement. “I know people all over the world play this game and I’m really excited that FIFA 16 is putting such an important spotlight on women’s soccer. And now to share the cover with today’s greatest player is surreal.”

This news comes after a number of FIFA fans asked for a member of the US Women’s National Team to have a spot on the cover of the game.

EA also confirmed that for the Canadian version of FIFA 16 the Canadian Women’s National Team captain, Christine Sinclair will feature, and in Australia Steph Catley will grace the cover.

The game will also allow players to take the role with twelve of the top women’s national teams in the game, including Australia, Brazil, Canada, China, England, France, Germany, Italy, Mexico, Spain, Sweden, and the US.

FIFA 16 will release on September 22nd for the PC, Xbox one, PlayStation 4, PlayStation 3 and the Xbox 360.
