Flir has been making thermal cameras for some time now with a range of cameras that have been designed for smartphones specifically, today they updated those smartphone thermal cameras with the announcement of the new Flir One and the new Flir One Pro.

They were teased back at CES last year and have been designed to work with both the iPhone and a USB-C Android phone.

Both of these use two image sensors to capture the thermal detail, the company’s Lepton sensor that can capture infrared light to measure heat, and a regular image sensor that captures all of the normal stuff for even greater detail.

This allows you to create better thermal images and videos that are great for a range of uses, even the most serious of projects.

The Flir One and the Flir Pro both have a 1,440 x 1,080 CMOS sensor, however, the Flir One is a little less capable of a 80×60 thermal sensor resolution, which is lower than the Pro.

The Pro also provides more customisation options.

If you just want to play around with thermal imaging then you would probably want to choose the Flir One, if you need more for something like your job then the Flir Pro might be a better option.

Flir explained more about the Flir One Pro with the following:

Designed for professionals and consumers alike, the all-new FLIR ONE Pro is the most advanced FLIR ONE ever created. Combining FLIR’s MSX with FLIR’s advanced video signal processing technology, VividIR™, the FLIR ONE Pro delivers the highest thermal image quality and clarity of all FLIR ONE generations. With a ruggedized design that is drop tested to 1.8 meters, the FLIR ONE Pro is made to withstand work and outdoor environments. It also offers exclusive, advanced FLIR ONE App features, including multiple spot temperature meters and selectable onscreen temperature tracking regions.

You can pre-order the Flir One and the Flir One Pro today from Flir’s website, they are available for $199.99 and $399.99 respectively
