Free to Play games have recently become extremely popular, after Apple more or less introduced them to the world with the introduction of in-app purchases, allowing a developer to create an app based on a free to play model, but still get some kind of payment for their efforts.

However not everyone is a fan, and the Office of Fair Trading have actually announced that they are currently inquiring about how unlawful free to play game truly are, with the main issue being how these companies market these purchases towards children.

The OFT are saying, that they basically want to see if free to play games are in fact “misleading, commercially aggressive or otherwise unfair”.

According to the group, if they do find that free to play titles are in breach of trading standards, they will be forced to remove those elements from their games, making free to play a little more free.
