With Apple’s launch of the iOS 6 mobile operating system, they ditched Google Maps and moved to their own version of Maps, which has been deemed pretty crap if I’m honest, but some sources are claiming that Google have already submitted their standalone app, and are waiting for Apple to give the go-ahead.

The news comes from 9to5mac who claim that “an updated iOS6 version of the Google Maps app has [already] been submitted to Apple.”

So it seems it’s merely a waiting game for Apple to approve the application, which seems but likely and unlikely, as Apple may approve so people don’t move manufacturer’s, or they might not to make sure their own application is used.
