Hideo Kojjma, the boss of Kojima Productions has just announced that The Phantom Pain and Ground Zeroes will be combined to become Metal Gear Solid 5.

Announced during the Game Developers Conference in San Francisco, Kojjma cam dressed up as the fictional CEO of Moby Dick Studio, who was originally the developer for The Phantom Pain, which is obviously no more.

The announcement also featured a six-minute gameplay trailer, combining gameplay footage from Ground Zeroes and The Phantom Pain, and was then revealed to be MGS5 and demoed for the audience using a PC and an Xbox controller.

The gameplay started as Snake woke up from his nine-year coma in a hospital, bandaged he is forced to escape.

Obviously there’s not too much revealed yet, however the trailer did end with the a final few words, “FOX vs. XOF”, and “A Phantom Battle Waged by the Vanished”, finishing with an image of Snake on a motercycle smoking a cigar.

So at least the rumors can now come to a stand still, The Phantom Pain did have something to do with Metal Gear Solid 5.

[Update] A trailer is now circulating YouTube, thanks to the folks at GamesHQMedia, check it out below:

[Update 2] GamesRadar now have a better quality trailer, it’s in 720p!
