Today HP released their years revenue and it didn’t look as good as they had hoped, as such shockingly they have decided to stop making hardware for their webOS operating system only 18 after originally buying Palm, Hp has said that they are examining their options for webOS in the future:

“HP plans to announce that it will discontinue operations for webOS devices, specifically the TouchPad and webOS phones,” the company said in a statement.

“HP will continue to explore options to optimize the value of webOS software going forward.”

Ever since they released they first tablet there was a lot of fanfare, but despite this webOS has still been considered a huge failure, with an early price cut of $100 in the US the cracks where starting to show, the lack of apps and a similarly priced iPad had failed to encourage consumers to buy the product resulting in hardly anything sold, so much so Best Buy requested to send some of their stock back to HP.

The main problem that I can see with webOS is the simple fact there are no app developers, this meant they were never going to compete with Apple’s developer army, who have ruled the developer roast for a long time now, personally I linked the TouchPad, but in my opinion it was just too heavily priced to compete with the iPad, it’s a shame really.

What so you think? Do you have a webOS design? What do you think about HP just cutting it off?
