IK Multimedia have today announced their first set of portable stereo speakers designed for musicians that they say comes with a “sound like studio monitors”, quite an elaborate claim to make I think.

The new line will be named iLoud and will consist of two models, the iLoud and iLoud Mini that will allow you to compose, record and mix on the move. The iLoud speaker is capable of producing 40W RMS of power, and the iLoud Mini will output 12W RMS.

IK say that these models will provide “highly accurate reproduction of a wide range of musical styles from rock, hip-hop and electronic dance music, to more nuanced and sonically demanding genres like classical and acoustic,” and will come equipped with onboard DSP for maintaining accuracy and inefficiency whatever the volume level, the speakers will also included custom-designed neodymium loudspeakers and will pack a bi-amped 4-driver array and will feature bass-reflex passive radiators.

The iLoud will allow you to plug-in a guitar, bass or even dynamic microphone directly into the speaker, and can be controlled via a multitude of real-time effects apps much like what is currently found in the iRig. Both of the models will also include Bluetooth capabilities so users can stream audio from their iPhone, iPod Touch or even iPad, there’s also a 1/8″ mini-jack input for connecting devices such as home stereos, DJ gear, mixers, MP3 players etc.

The iLoud model will be priced at $299.99 / €239.99 and iLoud MINI $199.99 / €159.99 (excluding taxes) available in the second quarter of 2013.
