This week Ikea announced the launch of their own smart home lighting solution, called Tradfri, it will be launched in Ikea’s UK stores this April and will include a range of energy-efficient LED bulbs that can be controlled remotely via an app.

The kit includes a range of new products, including LED bulbs, lighting panels, and doors, all of which have been designed to be much more affordable than other smart home lighting options that are on the market.

This new range will start off at £15 for a kit that includes a steering device and an LED bulb that you can simply plug in and go, just switch out your old bulb for the new Tradfri LED bulb.

There will also be a £69 Tradfri gateway kit on offer that will include two white spectra LED bulbs, a £29 Tradfri white spectrum dimming kit, a £25 Tradfri wireless motion sensor kit, and the £90 LED light doors and panels.

All of these can be managed and customised via the Tradfri companion app on phones and tablets, with the ability to switch between warm and cold lighting, as well as the ability to group up lamps to create lighting moods.

Ikea also said that they will be adding an “Away from Home” function to the app this autumn, allowing you to set lights to timers or remotely turn on/off the lights.
