Yup Apple have made yet another rumor official announcing the iPhone 5S, that will be available in Slate, Silver and Gold (sadly).
In terms of specs the iPhone 5S will feature Apple’s brand new A7 processor, that they say will make it the “World’s first and only smartphone” with a 64-bit chip, as it runs on a 64-bit desktop-class architecture.
This will also work with iOS 7 according to Apple, with support for both 32 and 64 bit applications, Apple says this results in 40% faster CPU performance and up to 64x faster graphics performance.
Alongside that Apple are also including something they call the M7 motion coprocessor, which has been included to continuously measure and track data from the accelerometer, compass, and gyroscope, and can even tell apps if you’re sitting, walking, driving or anything really.
Apple say one of the first apps to use this is a new app called Nike+ Move.
In terms of battery the iPhone 5S can last up to 250 hours on standby, with 10 hours LTE browsing and 10 hours 3G talk time.
The camera features a new five-element lens with an F2.2 aperture, with a 15% percent larger active area and a 1.5 micron pixel resolution, however Apple say it’s the camera app that finishes it all off, saying that it will set the white balance, exposure, create something called a dynamic local tone map and use “autofocus matrix metering”, all with 15 zones and all automatically.
There’s also something call True tone flash which uses two LEDs to produce the best colour for the environment you’re in, one is blue and the other is white.
Auto Image Stabilisation will also be included with a new 10 FPS burst mode, and even a new Slo-Mo mode which can capture 720p HD video at 120FPS, which is pretty cool stuff.
Apple have also added something they are calling “Touch ID”, which as you can expect, uses a fingerprint reader to all you access to your phone, instead of the previous passcode.
THis new sensor is 170 microns thin, senses 500 ppi, scans your sub-epidermal skin layers and can read in any orientation as well as being able to read multiple fingerprints, which we hope might allow for multiple accounts.
As rumored, its built right into the home button, which has been made from sapphire so it won’t scratch, oh and it works with iTunes to, which is actually a good idea.
To keep it secure, your fingerprint will never be available to other software, uploaded to Apple’s servers or even backed up to iCloud.
In the US the iPhone 5S will be available on a two year contract starting at $199 for the 16GB, $299 for the 32GB and $399 for the 64GB.
There will also be cases available for $39 a piece.
The smartphone will be available to pre-order on Friday, Sept 13th and available to buy on September 20th in various countries.
[Update] Apple has revealed that that the 16GB model of the iPhone 5S will be available from £549 SIM-free, the 32GB will be £629 SIM free and the 64GB 5S will be £709 SIM-free from the Apple Store, both online and in-store.
