Finally the BBC have updated their iPlayer application to support Android 4.1 Jelly Bean, under the new name BBC Media Player.

And there’s even a reason behind that name change, as you may already know Android 4.1 does not support flash, meaning that the iPlayer app is practically worthless on that platform.

In order to get around that and still keep support for previous Android variations that do support flash, the BBC have built-in the Adobe Air Media Player application, which allows them to automatically switch the player depending on the viewers OS.

The update is available from the Google Play Store, there’s no word whether the Android app will be getting some of the new iOS features such as downloads, but we will let you know if anything surfaces.
