Robot vacuum cleaners have had a pretty huge entry barrier for some time now, and that is the price.

Today iRobot announced a pair of new Roomba devices that might just bring down that barrier, the iRobot Roomba 890 and the iRbot Roomba 690 WiFi, which have price ranges that start at just $375 in the US for the 690 (there’s no pricing for the 890 yet).

Both of these devices come with all of the robot vacuum cleaning features that you would expect and they can be controlled via the iRobot HOME application on iOS and Android to set schedules for up to seven times a week.

The app will also alert you about the cleaning status, provide you with tips and access to iRobot’s customer support.

The Roomba 890 is the bigger of the two, and so it features some more specifications.

This includes dual, counter-rotating Tangle-Free Extractors, which are made with a “durable rubber tread” that is capable of grabbing dirt and hair from “any floor type” according to iRobot. The 890 also comes with a range of sensors and a low-profile design that helps it to move around your home along with ease.

iRobot has also fitted it out with their Gen 2 motor as well as their patented AeroForce 3-Stage Cleaning System which “uses a combination of agitation, extraction and suction to efficiently move dirt and debris from the floor to the dustbin”.

And to finish that off, the Roomba 890 will be capable of returning to its charging station to recharge when it is finished cleaning.

The iRobot Roomba 690 will be available in various US retail stores this quarter and the iRobot Roomba 890 will join it soon after at the end of Q2.

Unfortunately, we don’t know other release dates of pricing information just yet.
