Kickstarter has brought a ton of products to the market, the Pebble smartwatch, OUYA games console and a ton of other new and exciting products, probably the best of the bunch however has to be the recent campaign to build a Death Star, which was created shortly after the US government refused a proposal to do so.

Asking for £20,000,000 to start off, the team from GNUT who are based in Leicestershire (my hometown) are looking for full backing by April 1st, 2013.

The costs have been kept down from the US governments suggested 54 quadrillion, three hundred trillion-dollar budget by using open source hardware and software, however they do have a further goal of £543,000,000,000,000,00 to secure funding for the actual construction.

Of course this is all a joke and the Death Star won’t actually be funded through Kickstarter, but it’s a nice thought., to make sure people know this they have made the goal “high enough to make successful funding almost impossible.”

However they have still managed to gain quite a bit of backing, and so far they have over £73k and 580 backers.
