Today Kobo announced a new eBook reader, the Kobo Aura H2O Edition 2, which is a lightweight and completely waterproof eReader that’s ready for reading eBooks by the sea, or just the pool.
Kobo has fitted out with the same IPX8 waterproofing as the original Kobo Aura One, with a rating for waterproofing at depths of two metres for up to 60 minutes.
But it does have some of its own features, it weighs just 16 grams overall and it features a slightly smaller 6.8-inch e-ink display with a 1,440 x 1,080-pixel resolution, over the original’s 7-inch 1,872 x 1,404-pixel panel, sadly, that does mean you get a slightly less sharp pixel density at 256ppi.
To take advantage of the screen, the Kobo is capable of storing more than 6,000 eBooks on the 8GB model and it can do that for up to a week on the 1,500mAh battery.
The eReader will also have access to Kobo’s eBookstore, with a number of options to change fonts, font sizes, and the sharpness and lighting settings. It also comes with the ability to highlight, access a dictionary, take notes, and make bookmarks.
And all of this will be available £149.99, which is a pretty decent price to a lot of people who don’t want to spend a lot on a specific device like an eReader.
