Shortly after it was confirmed that Microsoft’s personal assistant was codenamed Cortana, a video was released demonstrating the assistant in action ahead of its official unveiling.

Said to be a rival to Siri and Google Now, Cortana is rumoured to be released alongside the new Windows Phone 8.1 operating system at Microsoft’s upcoming BUILD conference.

But ahead of that, we have already received details on what it will look like and what it will do, allowing users to find information from a number of services just by using their voice.

As you can see from the video Microsoft’s Cortana virtual assistant is represented by a circular animation rather than a female character as first thought.
