LG has today announced that they will be bringing the Knock feature that they premiered with the LG G2 to the L Series II smartphone.

The feature allows users to simply tap on the display to perform various actions, an example of which is to tap on the display twice in order to unlock or lock the smartphone, which is useful due to the power button being on the back of the device.

Due to its popularity on the LG G2, LG G Flex and the LG G Pad 8.3 tablet, the company says that it wants to extend its availability to as many customers as possible, with new L Series II smartphones getting the feature pre-installed on their handsets.

“No one ever thought that a power button needed to be improved until our engineers wondered why they couldn’t turn the entire screen into a power button,” said Dr. Jong-seok Park, president and CEO of LG electronics’ mobile communications.

For those who already have one of the smartphones, LG says that a global release will happen sometime in January 2014.
